1. Definitions. Standardization

Gauge blocks have been standardized for several years. The standards in force (see the Standardization section of the [Doc. R 1 245v2] document) are as follows:

  • at the international level: the ISO 3650 standard of December 1998;

  • at national level: standard NF EN ISO 3650 of March 1999 (this is the French translation of ISO 3650).

To understand the choice of standards in terms of industrial needs and the limitations of means and methods, it is necessary to develop the essential definitions and normative characteristics of gauge blocks. For further details, please refer to the standards.
