ABSTRACT

Weighing is an essential step in the laboratory and in the industrial sector. Mass standards are used to ensure the sound functioning of weighing instruments and the compliance of results with the set criteria. The renewal of the calibration of these weights is obligatory in order to ensure and maintain, over time, the compliance of the connection chain with national standards. In order to achieve this delicate and binding step, which must be reliable and efficient, it is necessary to use a suitable mass comparator as well as adapted software and accessories and to select an appropriate environment.

 INTRODUCTION

Mass standards are widely used by companies with quality assurance systems in place (ISO 9001, ISO 17025, GMP, GLP). These standards are used to ensure the correct operation of their weighing instruments. Calibration of weights and weight series is an essential step in the traceability of weighing instruments to national standards. The equipment used to perform this operation is called a mass comparator. Manual calibration is a long, demanding and time-consuming operation. For greater uncertainty, an automated mass comparator is preferred.
