4. Application examples

This section presents various examples of applications from the scientific literature illustrating the potential of imaging for fluid mechanics measurement. The emphasis is on the coupling of techniques and ultra-fast imaging, which often leads to the most complex optical set-ups.

4.1 Two-dye PLIF and quilt effect column mixing measurement

In this application, two-dye PLIF enables highly accurate measurement of the signal from a first fluorescent tracer, using the information provided by a second, homogeneously concentrated tracer, to correct for fluctuations in laser shot-to-shot energy, as well as any inhomogeneities in laser beam intensity distribution in the field of observation, sensor response uniformity or vignetting.
