2. CAN bus specifications

2.1 ISO layers and CAN bus

The standard ISO 11519 of the CAN bus specifies :

  • in part A, an 11-bit identification field ("standard" format);

  • in part B, a 29-bit identification field ("extended" format).

Note: in this article, only the standard format will be presented; the difference with the extended format will only concern the size of the identifier.
