A technique for separating molecules according to their relative affinity between a retentive stationary phase and an eluting mobile phase.

Orthogonality

Two chromatographic systems are said to be orthogonal for a given group of compounds when the retentions in these two systems are not correlated.

Gradient time

Time (programmed on the device) to go from an initial composition to a final mobile phase composition during an elution gradient.
