Interoperability

The ability of a railway system to allow the safe and uninterrupted movement of trains that achieve the required levels of performance.

Véhicule; vehicle

A railway vehicle capable of running on wheels on a railroad line, with or without traction; a vehicle consists of one or more structural and functional subsystems.

Network

Lines, stations, terminals and any type of fixed equipment needed to ensure the safe and continuous operation of the European Union's rail system.

Subsystems

The structural or functional parts of the European Union rail system, as defined in Annex II of Directive (EU) 2016/797.
