1. The importance of standardization

The transport sector directly employs around 11 million people and accounts for around 5% of the European Union's (EU) gross domestic product (GDP) . Deeply concerned by road safety (RS) and environmental sustainability issues, the European Commission (EC) has set precise objectives for the mobility of the future: a single European transport zone, with a 30% reduction in gas emissions by 2030 compared to 2021, as well as a sharp reduction in road fatalities: bringing the number of deaths and serious injuries close to 0 by 2050 ("Vision Zero")
