5. Limits of use

The development of composite materials, particularly those potentially suitable for structural applications, is still limited. Engineering departments and vehicle designers are still faced with difficulties related to materials, part manufacturing processes, vehicle assembly processes, cultural approaches and environmental regulations.

5.1 Material brakes

The physical characteristics of materials in databases are not sufficiently reliable and representative to be used in simulation software for new applications, especially for new materials coming onto the market. For example, the high-speed mechanical properties of many composite materials are still sorely lacking.
