1. Enzyme classification
The classification of enzymes, based on the nomenclature of the Enzyme Commission (EC), allows each enzyme to be designated by a code name, and takes into account the specific nomenclature of the IUBMB (International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology).
Each enzyme is assigned a series of numbers. The first number, N, following the EC, corresponds to the enzyme class. There are 7, each of which relates to a type of catalyzed reaction.
After the number N corresponding to the class (EC N), we find the number X of the sub-class most often designating the donor, the transferred group, the nature of the substrate, as the case may be, in relation to the family of the transformed substrate(s).
