5. Biomedical applications

The bio-inspired nature of biomimetic apatites and their high surface reactivity make them excellent candidates for biomedical applications, not only for bone regeneration but also, as has been shown more recently, in other areas of "nanomedicine", whether for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes.

5.1 Biomimetic apatite-based biomaterials for bone repair

Given their similarity to bone mineral, biomimetic nanocrystalline apatites are unquestionably well-suited to the development of bone biomaterials, whether in powder form, as dense or porous matrices (scaffolds), or as cements, composites or coatings.
