8. EPI (Emulsion Polymer Isocyanates)
These are two-component adhesives:
a polymer containing reactive hydroxyl groups —OH in aqueous emulsion;
a hardener, which is a special protected isocyanate.
The evaporation of water from the emulsion and heat cause the isocyanate to react with —OH, resulting in "cross-linking" and curing.
These EPI adhesives offer excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates (wood, metal) and high water resistance, making them ideal for a variety of outdoor applications:
exterior joinery ;
assembly of window frames, etc.
