3. Emulsion glues and adhesives based on copolymers

This family includes :

  • vinyl copolymers ;

  • vinyl acetate-ethylene emulsion (VAE) adhesives;

  • adhesives based on acrylic or vinyl-acrylic emulsions.

These different adhesives are similar to external plasticized vinyls, but here they are internal plasticizers: it's the comonomer that gives the plasticizing effect.

These emulsion adhesives are more flexible, tackier and softer after setting than previous vinyls.

They are mainly used for laminating plastic films to wood-based panels, such as decorative PVC films to MDF (Medium Density Fiber), plywood or particleboard.
