12. Glued-and-nailed construction and single-family homes
This interesting technique is illustrated in figure 33 : to reinforce a glued joint and achieve immediate assembly, the panels are glued together with a bead of mastic or more fluid mastic adhesive, and a few nails or screws are added simply to hold the parts together while the mastic sets.
Another advantage of this technique is that the flexible putty prevents squeaking caused by wood-on-wood contact.
For this application, there is a choice of various sealants or "adhesive sealants":
neoprene or SBR (butadiene-styrene copolymer) solution...
