5. Glossary

Fragilisation par l'hydrogène (FPH) ; Hydrogen embrittlement

Degradation of the mechanical properties of metal alloys in the presence of hydrogen, generally resulting in a drop in ductility and toughness and an acceleration in the rate of fatigue crack propagation.

Hydrogen Induced Decohesion (HID) or Hydrogen Enhanced Decohesion Embrittlement (HEDE)

Embrittlement mechanism associated with a drop in the cohesive energy of crystal planes or interfaces in the presence of hydrogen.

Hydrogen Enhanced Localized Plasticity (HELP)

An embrittlement mechanism associated with hydrogen-dislocation interactions in the volume of the material, resulting in a significant localization of plasticity, leading to a drop in macroscopic ductility.
