6. General conclusions and recommendations
The corrosion of metals and alloys, and in particular high-temperature gas corrosion, which is the subject of this article, is a multi- and interdisciplinary science with major technological and economic implications. Major sectors of society are concerned, and the technical, economic, safety and environmental consequences of these degradation phenomena need to be carefully considered. Preventive and curative measures are available to reduce the risk of corrosion by high-temperature gases, and their judicious implementation could reduce the cost of corrosion by up to 50%. This requires a sound understanding of the state of the art, i.e. of all the mechanisms involved and the phenomena observed, as well as of the means of action available to reduce, or even cancel out in the best of cases, the risks incurred, whether preventive or curative.
