1. Basic electrochemical quantities

Let's consider an electrochemical manufacturing process and seek to express U m , its mass energy of operation. At each instant, U m is given by the product of the terminal voltage V and the quantity of electricity Q expended, divided by the mass m converted electrochemically :

U m = VQ / m

V and Q are two related quantities; the voltage at the cell terminals is the intensive factor in the expression of energy, while the quantity of electricity represents the associated extensive factor.

Q, the product of flow intensity I and time t , and m are linked by Faraday's law.
