5. Conclusion
Nickel and its alloys form a family of metallic materials that are particularly useful for their resistance to aqueous corrosion, providing a solution to the problem of corrosion in virtually any medium (basic or acidic; oxidizing or reducing). It is therefore particularly important to be familiar with their properties when choosing a material for a specific piece of equipment. In addition to their resistance to uniform corrosion, they are good bulwarks against localized corrosion (pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion). Numerous industrial applications exist. By way of conclusion, here are just a few of them:
caustic soda production: Ni 200/201 ;
power generation: pressurized water for nuclear power plants: alloy 600/690 (Ni-Cr) ;
seawater splash zone: alloy 400 (Ni-Cu)...
