8. Metallurgical processes for germanium recovery

Germanium is rarely extracted from ores. However, there are possibilities from oxidized iron ores. In general, extraction is carried out from sulfidic or oxidic concentrates, by chlorination followed by purification. .

When the germanium contained in scraps is extracted, it is converted into GeO 2 oxide, if necessary, and the same operations are carried out as those implemented from concentrates.
