13. General steelworks sectors

We have just reviewed the steelmaking production facilities up to and including hot rolling mills and pickling. We will not deal with cold rolling mills, annealing plants, coating plants or finishing plants, whose environmental aspects will be covered in the corresponding articles.

On the other hand, there are certain plant sectors which, although not directly involved in steel production, contribute to it or are a consequence of it, such as :

  • lime kilns in operation at certain integrated plants;

  • oxygen plants, storage facilities and pipelines;

  • raw materials and equipment depots;

  • boilers and steel plants;

  • water treatment ;

  • slag heaps and landfills....
