1. Different types of treatment are possible
With the exception of thermomechanical treatments carried out in the hot forming process (rolling, forging, closed-die forging) with inherited work hardening, several families of purely thermal treatments can be distinguished, depending on their metallurgical purpose. réf. .
Homogenization treatments or annealing. Carried out at the highest temperatures in the solid range, these treatments are primarily designed to reduce the composition gradients resulting from solidification by diffusion. Bringing the interdentritic spaces closer together by hot working accelerates chemical homogenization.
