5. National methodology for managing polluted sites and soils

Implementation of the national methodology for managing polluted sites and soils is guided by the fundamental principles of environmental law, in particular the polluter pays principle, and the principle of preventive action and remedying environmental damage, as set out in Article L110-1 - II of the Environmental Code. . The principles of informing people about these actions and involving them are also at the heart of the management process. The methodology for managing polluted sites and soils was updated in 2017 to take into account feedback and changes in both regulations and practices.
