7. Pouring molten metal

7.1 General

Pouring the liquid metal into a mold is the final phase in the part creation process, after the mold has been made and the metal processed.

This meeting of a high-temperature metal and a mold, usually at room temperature, requires a great deal of care to ensure the safe arrival of the part and the safety of personnel.

We'll be keeping a close eye on the three main parameters of this operation.

  • Mould

    It must be perfectly dry and free from any trace of moisture which could lead to explosion, blowing or pitting of the parts, especially when the molds are fitted with coolers. Numerous systems exist for drying and reheating cavities before closing the molds...
