4. Melting equipment
Foundry melting equipment is called secondary melting because it remelts products already produced either by the iron and steel industry (pig iron, scrap) or by the electrometallurgy industry (aluminum ingots, for example).
The metal to be cast is very precisely defined: composition standards, specific foundry requirements (castability, etc.). The result is a rigorous obligation to control even the supply of raw materials.
The impact on product quality, the amortization period for foundry equipment, its cost and the cost of installation mean that the choice of a melting unit must be based on very comprehensive technical and economic studies, and in particular take into account :
all metallurgical aspects of liquid alloy production, processing and casting;
