2. Melting beds

2.1 Ferrous alloys

Melting beds are specific to the melting media used. In general, they comprise three types of component.

  • Metallic materials

    They include the following:

    • new cast irons for various analyses delivered in pigs;

    • size-graded scrap metal for bulk deliveries;

    • bundles of sheet metal offcuts, mostly from the automotive industry, unfortunately increasingly coated with zinc to combat bodywork corrosion;

    • of bocage or offcuts of various castings;

    • manufacturing returns (casting runners and jets, rejected parts from foundry or...
