2. Classification
Tool steel grades are classified into 4 classes, depending on the way the tool is used (table 1 ):
unalloyed tool steels for cold working (6 grades) ;
alloy tool steels for cold working (17 grades) ;
alloy tool steels for hot working (9 grades) ;
high-speed steels (16 grades).
