5.1 Definition reminder

A distinction is generally made between three spans:

  • detection range ;

  • recognition range;

  • identification range.

These ranges apply to particular classes of object. For example, for military land targets: light vehicles, trucks, light armored vehicles, battle tanks.

  • detection means knowing that one of these vehicles is present;

  • Recognition means knowing how to distinguish between the different types of vehicles listed above;
