Optoelectronic computing refers to a vast and varied field of research and applications, all having in common the use of light as a medium for information (signal or image) to take advantage of the properties of light, of which speed and parallelism are the most commonly cited examples. In over 50 years of research, this field has evolved, and if for a long time the term "Optical Computing" represented it well, today the terms "Information Optics" or "Optics and Photonics for Information" are tending to replace it. What's more, as the programs of conferences organized by the major international scientific societies (SPIE, Optical Society of America, European Optical Society) show, this field has diversified considerably, giving rise to numerous fields of research....
