2.1 Propagation reminders
There are two approaches to understanding the propagation of electromagnetic radiation in fibers. A comparison of these two approaches will help us to understand the rest of the presentation. The first approach, which is simpler to equate, is based on the Snell-Descartes laws of geometrical optics. The second approach takes into account the fact that light is electromagnetic radiation, and is therefore based on the solution of Maxwell's equations.
