2. Technical description of the innovation

A single-layer OLED, the simplest device, consists of a layer of organic molecules positioned between two electrodes . Electroluminescence is produced by injecting holes (at the anode) and electrons (at the cathode) into the organic layer, transporting these charges through the material, allowing them to recombine into electron-hole pairs known as excitons, and then relaxing these excitons to emit light.
