9. The problem of microscopic ionization constants

The problem of determining acidity microconstants arises systematically when studying the ionization of a polyacid (or polybase).

9.1 Macroscopic and microscopic constants

We only pose the problem in the case of the diacid H—A—H. The diacid can be ionized to give the corresponding monoacid by either route 1 or route 2. In route 1, the monoacid HA is formed.
