1. Importance of specifications
Examination of the systems on offer shows that a paint system cannot be applied without first drawing up specifications. These must include the following information:
chemical nature of the metal used ;
surface treatment, whose role is to ensure the adhesion of the first coat of paint;
environment in which the painted metal will be exposed;
service life offered to the user ;
compliance with environmental regulations through the use of waterborne paints, except when systems are subjected to aggressive environments, for which solvent-based systems are preferred.
