6. Conclusion

Microencapsulation is based on a wide range of processes, and finds numerous applications in fields as varied as the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food, textile and phytosanitary industries. Microencapsulation offers industrial technological solutions when the aim is to protect the active ingredient, improve its presentation or control its release profile.

For reasons of biocompatibility, toxicity and the environment, processes will have to evolve towards the use of GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) constituents and free themselves from organic solvents in order to maintain and develop on the market. In addition, advances in biotechnology-derived products will lead to the emergence of new microencapsulation processes compatible with these substances, which are particularly fragile and delicate to formulate.
