6. Good water management practices in paper mills

When we talk about water management in paper mills, we need to take a global view of all water circuits: the process water circuit (fabric water and clarified water), the clear water circuit and effluents.

6.1 Process water management strategies

The water circuit of the paper machine is managed in a loop (figure 6 ):

  • the short loop or primary circuit: immediate reuse of the first draining water from the fabric, rich in fibers, to dilute the thick paste before the headbox;

  • the long loop surrounding the primary circuit, or secondary circuit. This circuit collects water...
