1. Properties of dihydrogen

The dihydrogen molecule is made up of two hydrogen atoms. For the sake of simplicity, it is called hydrogen when there can be no confusion with its constituent atoms. This will be the case in this article.

Under normal conditions of temperature and pressure, hydrogen is an odorless, colorless gas. It liquefies at – 252.8°C and is the coldest known fluid in liquid form, after liquid helium. The characteristics of hydrogen are given in table 1 .
