As the involvement of measurements is crucial in predicting the future of an AN-managed site, the characterization protocol must be very strict. All the data collected must be used to determine whether product degradation is present and whether it will be sufficient. In this context, in addition to detailed hydrodynamic characterization, characterization of the source zone and a detailed understanding of redox phenomena on a site-wide scale are required.
