4. Catalytic reactors. Catalyst application

In this section, we'll look at the various types of apparatus in which a solid-catalyzed chemical reaction can be carried out, where the reactants may be present in one or two fluid phases.

The purpose of a solid catalyst is to accelerate a specific chemical reaction, so the catalyst, the chemical reaction and the appropriate operating conditions have to be considered as a whole. Furthermore, during industrial application, care must be taken to preserve, as far as possible, the essential characteristics of the catalyst, namely :
