1. A few figures for "digital" France

Despite recurrent media rhetoric, France has insensitively entered a post-industrial economy in which digital and Internet technologies play an important role. At the same time, French society has evolved without necessarily being aware of it.

On February 11, 2009, Microsoft (see Note) published the results of a major survey entitled "Référence des usages des technologies de l'information au travail en France". In particular, the study provides a map of professional uses in companies. Above all, it provides a clear understanding of the current situation.

The study, initiated and coordinated by Microsoft, was published in 2009 as part of its Centre des usages. It combines the work of four specialized firms:
