4. Examples of manycores

In this section, we present a summary of the architectural choices made in the four architectures we have considered. Only hardware aspects are considered. A detailed performance evaluation is also beyond the scope of this article.

4.1 Xeon phi architectures

Intel's manycore approach is known as MIC (many-integrated-core) and has seen two generations of Xeon Phi, codenamed KNC (Knights Corner) and KNL (Knights Landing). These are coprocessors with an independent processor version for KNL.

Intel's Xeon Phi coprocessor reflects the approach of extending multi-core features to the manycore domain, including :
