4. Architecture description
The following paragraphs describe the different types of architecture for which a compiler must generate code, and the technical difficulties involved in code generation.
A microprocessor is an electronic circuit that performs complex calculations by executing machine instructions.
A highly symbolic diagram of a "von Neumann" processor is shown in figure 3 . This figure shows the main components of a simple processor:
the "Memory" block contains the data and the program to be executed;
the "PLC" block decodes instructions and sequences the operations to be performed;
the green block corresponds to functions...
