4. Discussion: LC, displacement and accident risks

The aim of this article was to highlight a possible disruption to movement when LCs are used while walking, potentially leading to greater exposure to the risk of a level fall or collision with an obstacle.

The results show first of all that the simple fact of wearing LCs, even when inactive (without displaying information on the screen), has a slight influence on movement, with a slowdown of 1 to 2%, a shortening of step length by around 2% and small deviations in trajectory, observed under the conditions of this study. This was particularly true for the three models that required a cable to be connected to a smartphone, worn as a holster by the user. These results could be explained by the physical characteristics of these models (screen size, temples, etc.), which obscure part of the user's field of vision.
