10. Conclusion

Multichannel sound envelops the listener, creating the beginnings of 3D sound, ahead of stereoscopic TV.

But the introduction of multichannel sound in television requires major changes in signal management throughout the production/broadcast chain (figure 23 ). Workstation engineering has to be rethought in the light of new, more stringent criteria. New visual audio monitoring tools are introduced. Metadata management requires increased attention.
