4. Tools used

4.1 Intra-image prediction

H.265 takes the Intra-image prediction tool introduced with AVC/H.264, but greatly improves on it. The principle is to predict the state of pixels in a block by projecting samples from adjacent blocks in a certain direction. Figure 19 shows this projection principle and indicates in grey the samples that serve as predictors. These samples come from blocks located: above left, above, above right, left and below left of the block to be coded.
