3. Protection and robustness
The implementation of P2MP MPLS trees, established at the initiative of receivers, is motivated in particular by the ability to combine the dynamics characteristic of the establishment of conventional IP multicast distribution trees with the robustness of MPLS traffic engineering functions, which are a preferred means of providing strict guarantees in terms of quality of service, guaranteed bandwidth and reliability.
