2. General LTE principles

In this chapter, we present an essential aspect of LTE, namely packet access.

To keep things educational, we've disregarded a large number of mechanisms and deliberately simplified the process.

2.1 OFDM basic principle

The radio interface is based on multiple transmission on orthogonal OFDM carriers. On the uplink, this is a variant known as SC-FDMA (Single Carrier – Frequency Division Multiplex Access).
