4. Conclusion
This article presents the various advances made by the IEEE 802.11 working group. Many new proposals have emerged since the first 802.11-1997 standard. These proposals cover a wide range of issues, from improving physical data rates to enhanced security, quality of service and resource utilization management.
The 802.11 working group is still very active, and numerous working groups, not mentioned in this article, are underway. Increasing data rates is still a topical issue, with, for example, the 802.11ac subgroup (focusing on very high data rates) and the 802.11ad subgroup (focusing on extremely high data rates). Technologies adapted to specific applications are also at the heart of the problem. We've seen this with the 802.11p or 802.11s subgroups, but new subgroups have also just been created, such as 802.11aa (which focuses on transporting streamed audio/video...
