1.1 Power cables
They can be classified according to various criteria.
By voltage level: apart from the special case of oil- or gas-filled cables in HV, all paper- or synthetically-insulated cables, whatever their voltage level, will benefit from the same pre-location and fault location methods.
Depending on the type of network: arborescent in low-voltage, with feeder break with or without bypass or double bypass in HV, or strictly without bypass in EHV, the structure of the networks will only condition the choice of certain pre-location methods because of the efficiency/safety ratio.
