1. Conductor junction and branching devices
Overhead conductors are never joined by welding or splicing. Jointing devices must have a mechanical strength at least equal to 95% of the rated breaking load of the conductor on which they are mounted. They must also be able to conduct current without overheating. Standard NF C 66-800 of August 1978 (Fittings for overhead lines. Raccords de jonction, de derivation et d'extrémité) and NF EN 61-284 of May 2000 (Lignes aériennes. Exigences et essais pour le matériel d'équipement) define the characteristics that fittings must have.
