8. Tests
Tests on glass and ceramic insulators for overhead lines are defined in standard NF EN 60383-1.
Standard NF EN 60383 provides general information, test procedures and acceptance criteria, and defines the list of tests, test procedures and acceptable quality levels for four types of insulator (rigid with rods, rigid with bases (not used in France), insulator string elements with cover and rod or long shaft, insulators for electric traction lines). This standard is divided into two chapters: the first covering the testing of insulators as part of a chain, and the second covering the testing of insulator chains.
