2. Main types
Two main types of insulator can be distinguished: rigid-type insulators and string elements.
2.1 Rigid type insulator
A rigid insulator (figure 1 ) is connected to the support by a fixed fitting. This insulator is mainly subjected to bending and compression forces when placed in a vertical position. In some cases, it can be placed horizontally, or even obliquely.
