The main developments underway on SEM equipment concern :
combining the functions of several devices into a single device, e.g. disconnector and earthing switch, disconnector and circuit breaker, thus limiting the total number of devices;
possibly associated with the previous point, the reduction in the number of compartments ;
simplifying the replacement of a defective component, for example by using plug-in systems.

A current development in measurement transformers will be applied to SEM equipment. These new devices, known as "transducers" and currently undergoing international standardization, will use :
